ABOUT THIS COLLECTION

Knitwear

Cousin Jack's knitwear is a pair of slipovers: sleeveless jumpers that you wear over a shirt, also known as tank tops or sweater vests. There is Fred's Fairisle slipover, in a Fair Isle stitch pattern, and a plain knitted slipover in pine. Both are fitted V necks with a vintage stitch pattern, made to be worn with natural-waisted trousers, and both come in sizes XS to 3XL.

Why is it called Fair Isle?

Fair Isle knitting is named after Fair Isle, one of the Shetland Islands, and the patterned knitwear became fashionable in the 1920s after the Prince of Wales, later Edward VIII, wore it in public. Fred's is knitted in 100% Shetland wool, in bands of pattern, and needs a cool hand wash.

The plain slipover

The pine one has no pattern at all: a straightforward V neck in a vintage stitch, in a wool and acrylic blend that you can wash cool by machine or by hand. Either looks right over a collarless shirt with high-waisted fishtail back trousers, and the Fair Isle one sits happily in a country gent outfit. Our size guide has the chest measurements.
